From the village of BASHANI, under the thana (police station) of BIRPUR, in the district of GONDA, state of UTTAR PRADESH, INDIA, a young couple embarked on a voyage of a lifetime.

The man was 30 year old ASHRAPH, whose father was JANU and brother NABIBUX (Nabee Baksh). His wife was 25 year old RASHIDAN, whose father was WAZIR.

HASRAT KHAN was not listed as her brother but his depot,sub-depot and ship numbers were very close to Rashidan"s and Ashraph's. They were also all of the Muslim caste of PATHAN. 24 year old Hasrat however was from the village BINWAL, under the thana BILARIA,in AZAMGARH district of UTTAR PRADESH. His father was PIRAI and his brother WALI MOHAMED.

On 15 November,1900, Ashraph, Rashidan and Hasrat were at the sub depot of GORAKHPUR, where they consented to emigrate. They were then taken to the bustling city of CALCUTTA where they boarded the " ARNO" on the

10th December 1900 as it set sail for TRINIDAD.
