Rasheedan Khan

I remember my grandmother as a very jovial person, she spoke only a few words in English,it was very difficult to understand her but I asked questions anyway and tried to make sense of whatever she was saying like ( pani layway ho) hope i spelt it right!! which ment "bring me some water".

She would tell us jokes in her own language and crack up laughing, you would think she was laughing at us because we did not understand her.

She told me she came on a boat from India-Bombay, she also mentioned "AZAMGARH"- and that her brother was Hasrat who came on the boat with her, she lost him in Trinidad, and did not know where he went.

The time I spent with her was unforgetable, she wore only white clothing, she also had a nickname for me (cannot tell you all )

I remember her making a pot of porridge with stale roti and milk, umm it was so good!!

The last thing she told me before she passed was "do not cry,because I want to go back to India, and if you cry I would not be able to cross water". That was what she believed.
