Asunción López Bantug was educated at Assumption Convent and the University of Santo Tomas and holds a bachelor of arts degree in journalism and a bachelor of science in education (cum laude). She is married to numismatist and Filipiniana collector Antonio Bantug. Bantug is a prolific writer and has contributed to various Philippine publications. The biography she wrote of her Lolo Jose won honorable mention in the National Rizal Biography Contest in 1938.
