About Audrey Carroll Berini

Audrey Carroll Canning Berini, 91, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, in the Benedictine Health Center in Duluth. Audrey was born in Duluth on July 29, 1916, the first of three children born to Judd and Bernice (Bellis) Canning. She graduated from Duluth Central High School and was a long time member of Chester Park United Methodist Church. Audrey loved her church family and through the years spent countless enjoyable hours working in its Sunday School and on projects and fundraising for the Ladies Circle, singing in the church choir, but perhaps most notably, organizing the apple pie baking for the annual Men's Club Roast Beef Dinner, while her husband Earl helped cook up the roast beef. Audrey is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl in 1991; and her brothers, Donald and Emmett Canning. She is survived by her son, Richard (Christine) of Cloquet; daughters, Kathleen (David) Knutsen of Coon Rapids, Minn., and Patricia (Patrick) Francisco of Duluth; seven grandchildren, Richard Berini, Jr., Christopher Knutsen, Ann (Joe) Lammi, Deborah (Chad) Moren, Laura Knutsen, Julia Francisco, and Angela (Joakim) Flygh; eight great grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren. So many of the caregivers and spiritual leaders at the Benedictine Health Center take their work to a higher level through the dignity, honor, lighthearted humor, and compassion with which they treat the residents. For the past nine years, and for several years before that, Audrey and Earl were the beneficiaries of that care, and to all the staff there, the family would like to extend a very heartfelt thank you. VISITATION:11 a.m. until the 12 Noon service on Friday, Jan. 11, 2008, in Chester Park United Methodist Church on 18th Avenue East and Ninth Street. Inurnment will be at Calvary Cemetery. Memorials preferred to Chester Park United Methodist Church.
