August William Folkers

According to a biography on Karl August Folkers (August's only child), August was born in Eckwarden, Stae of Oldenburg, Germany and emmigrated to the US with his parents in 1882.

The 1900 census of Decatur, Il shows August to be living as a boarder in the Hastings home. While the birthdate shows Sept, 1878 and his birthplace at NY, it very well could have been the owner of the home speaking on his behalf and not sure of his birthplace, or month. (Update from information provided by Laura Ross-Dedloff, August went to live with Mr. Hastings after the death of his parents. All of the kids were split up and lived in various locations) In 1900 his brother, or whom I believe to be his brother, Herman was living with an Aunt, and his younger brother Harry I can't find any information on. I believe the boys had lost one or both of their parents at that time and were separated and sent to live with relatives and friends. In 1900 Herman shows up with Aunt Augusta P Eilers in Union, shelby, Iowa. Eilers was their mothers maiden name so I assume Augusta was Johanna's sister.

Link to Decatur, Ill newspaper showing that August Folkers had a letter to be picked up at the post office. Date was Dec. 25, 1901. I can't help but wonder what that letter said.
