More Notes written by Alma Kuhlman Campas about Frederick Louis August Kettler, known as August Kettler In 1873, he settled, with his parents, in Paola, Miami County, Kansas. Here he met and married his wife, and had 11 children, 3 who died there. The family moved by covered wagon to Seridan (Sheridan) Lake, Colo. in 1907. In December 1910, the family moved back to Deerfield, Kearny County, Kansas. In the Spring of 1911 they moved to a farm in Finney County, Kansas, where they raised sugar beets for Garden City Sugar Company, the farm was located about 5 miles Northeast of Deerfield. In 1912 they moved to a farm Northeast of Deerfield (NE 1/4 26-23-35) where they raised beets and melons for seed. In 1916 the family moved just South of Lake McKinney. Dorothy, Olga and Irene helped with farming while Chris was in the Army. They raised alfalfa and prairie hay. Early in 1920 they moved to Tiffany , Colorado. They lived and farmed there, with Uncle Chris, until Grandpa suffered a stroke and was brought to , where he and Grandma were cared for by their daughters, Emma and Olga. He suffered his first stroke on January 13, 1941. The second one claimed his life on October 13, 1941, which was our Grandmother’s birthday. I remember my mother telling me that my Grandfather always said that he had red hair, but it was already gray. Y the time my mother could remember. I guess that is why I have so many red-haired cousins, (as well I do). I remember him as a big stocky man, maybe about 6 feet tall. 1875 Miami County Kansas State Census, Valley twp., pg 17, P. O. Paola, by S. H. Thomas listed August Kettler as 12 years old, not born in 1861, as other Obituaries do.
