Mäkitupalaisen tytär, Sysmä, Skinnarla, Rantala -1899-
Aurora was born on December 29, 1888 in Sysmä, the Grand Duchy of Finland. She was the sixth child of Kaarlo Kivimäki and Matleena Taavetintytär.
On June 19, 1909, Aurora gave birth to Siiri in Sysmä. Siiri's father is not known and Aurora soon left the child to foster parents.
In 1913 Aurora decided to move to the United States. She boarded C.F. Tietgen in Copenhagen on June 6, 1913, and arrived on Ellis Island in New York City on June 18.
In 1915-1920 Aurora worked as a servant on Sandford Avenue in Flushing, Queens. On August 27, 1920 she married Wäinö Kustaa Huhtanen (known as Gustave). Gustave was born in 1890 in Karkku in Finland, and supported his family by working as a carpenter in New York.
After they were married, Aurora became a housewife. She gave birth to their son William on May 1, 1921. The family resided in Kings County, where they bought a house on 9224 Rost Place. Aurora and her husband became naturalized citizens on May 25, 1937 and November 10, 1936 respectively. Census papers state that her husband and son were both able to read and write and that the whole family spoke English, but that Aurora was illiterate.
Aurora passed away on October 15, 1944 in Kings County. She was buried at Canarsie Cemetery in Brooklyn with her husband.
