Austin Choate heritage

Austin Choate, during his growing years, found his family to be involved in the trading business with the Cherokee Indian, as well as other nations. Austin, himself, was half English and half Cherokee because of the marriage between Christopher Choate III and Prudence Staley, a Full Blooded Cherokee (records on file with the Cherokee nation). At the time of his mother's marriage, Prudence dad, according to the records, was the Chief of the Cherokee tribe. The Choate's felt that their trading business would be enhanced by marrying within the Cherokee nation.

Austin's own daughter, Hannah Choate, born abt. 1789 from Buncombe County, North Carolina, was part Cherokee. Her mother, Elizabeth Pyburn, help raise her during those growing years. The marriage in 1774, between Austin & Elizabeth Pyburn, produced 9 children. Some were born in Virginia and others, including Hannah were born in Buncombe County, North Carolina. For some reason, Hannah's name on the majority of the "pedigree" trees was not listed. The reasons for this are quite explainable, the first reason is because of the marriage between John Bradford Jr and Hannah Choate. No one was able to correct the spelling of her last name (Schroate) and carry back the history of her birth.

The second reason for her tree not continuing was because of errors on the date of her birth and birth location.

The third reason was in regard to marriage date of John Bradford Jr and Hannah Choate, which must have taken place in 1808, because their first child was born in 1809. Also, John Bradford Jr must had been married before to unknown Bradford, because his first daughter is Mary Bradford, born 1799. Therefore, John Bradford Jr, first wife must had died at child birth. Which explains some of the errors in regard to John Bradford Jr and Hannah Choate's list of children. That's why, in regard to Hannah Choate, some family trees on Ancestry.com show her birth abt 1780 and others show abt. 1790. But the correct birth date for Hannah is abt. 1789. The reason for the birth not being 1790 is because of her brother, Thomas Choate, who was in born in 1790. Therefore, there is no way that Hannah could had been born in 1790. The final decision on this matter is because the Cenus of 1850, show John at 73 and Hannah at 60 in Yancey County, North Carolina, USA.

John Bradford Jr and Hannah Choate are our 5th generation great grandfather and grandmother who produced our 4th generation great grandfather, George Allen Bradford.
