Marriage 1 William Carter b: ABT 1600 in Newgate, Christ Church, Edmonton, Middlesex, London, England Married: BEF 1625 in England
From https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Turtley-2
Avis married, as his 1st, to William Carter.[1] William's three wives are recorded on a land patent in James City County, Virginia, in which William received land in return for their transportation.[1] William's first son, William, Jr., was the son of one of the first two wives, Avis Purtley or Ann Mathis.
Possible Child of Avis and William:[1][2]
Some researchers contend that another of William's children was Thomas Carter of Nasemond, but there is no evidence for this.[3]

"A key to William Carter of Surry's origin may exist in his relationship to Thomas Gray. The cousin of William Carter. The cousin Gray who's wife Rebecca, was called "a whore" by one of William Carter's first two wives. I am currently researching the lines of Thomas Gray, his wife Rebecca and their sons Thomas and William. Turns out Thomas Gray's first wife was Avis Turtley (William Carters second wife). The woman she called a whore was Thomas Gray's second wife, Rebecca Hutton, widow of Daniel Hutton. Avis Turtley and Rebecca were cousins."[1] Colonial Abstacts Volume 7-8 pg 233. William Carter was probably born in 1600; thus he was of approximately the same age as his neighbour Stephen Webb; he died during the summer of 1655. He had three wives - Avis Turtley, Ann Mathis, and Alice Croxon who survived him. He is recorded as a servant living in Jamestown Island in the 1624/5 Muster, but does not appear in the one of 1623/4 or in Sir Francis Wyatt's return of landowners in 1625.
He had at least two children, William Jr., the exact date of whose death is unknown but it was between August and November 1655; and George, who was probably born early in 1639 and who died in 1671. William Jr., was born about 1634 or 1635 and was the son of one of the first two wives. After his death, his estate was split up, part of it being granted to Samuel Huby and John Carter of Corotoman jointly.
