Barbara Wedderburn

BARBARA WEDDERBURN, was the eldest daughter of ROBERT WEDDERBURN and JANET KYD. Barbara's paternal grandfather was Robert Wedderburn, the progenitor of the lines of Kingennie, Easter Powrie, and Wedderburn, Blackness, Balindean and Gosford. This information is sourced from The Wedderburn Book written in 1898.

The dates of birth for Barbara's three brothers are listed as estimates with the eldest, Alexander, being born in 1530 and the youngest brother in 1546. Barbara was the eldest of three daughters whose birth dates are not listed in the book. Barbara's birth year is not give, but was likely between 1530 and 1545.

BARBARA WEDDERBURN was twice married. Her first marriage was to DAVID GUTHRIE, whose ancestry, birth year, and age are not identified by the source material. He was likely of approximate age to his wife, born about 1530-1540.

Their marriage occurred before the year 1560. By this marriage Barbara Wedderburn had issue two sons, David and Robert (m. Eufame Jackson, and died bef. 1603), Christina (m 1575 William Kynloch, surgeon, Catharine m. John Leslie; and Margaret who m. Thomas Wallace. (Wedderburn, p.94)

BARBARA WEDDERBURN is "first named 10 Jan 1560 when she and her husband get a sasine of a North Marketgait land and there is a similar entry 24 Nov 1562." (Wedderburn Book, p94).

DAVID and BARBARA made a settlement on their son DAVID, 13 Nov 1564.

Her husband DAVID GUTHRIE died sometime between 11 March 1574 and 11 Nov 1575 when BARBARA is named as a relict (widow) of DAVID GUTHRIE.

On 11 Nov 1575, BARBARA WEDDERBURN, relict of DAVID GUTHRIE, and her children sue THOMAS DOW, who objects to ALEXANDER WEDDERBURN, the clerk, acting as clerk in the cause because he is a brother german to Barbara, an objection disallowed by the court. (DBR 226 - Wedderburn)

Sometime before 29 Feb 1581, BARBARA remarried. On that date Barbara and husband Peter Imbrie/Imrie get sasine of a North Marketgait House (Wedderburn, p.94) // By this marriage she had issue a son, Peter Imbrie who was still a minor on 15 Jan, 25 Feb 1596.

"Barbara Wedderburn ratified her will 12 Sept. 1607, and probably died soon after. She may, perhaps have been living 8 May 1609, as she is not named as deceased at that date, but was certainly dead before 18 May 1615."

Barbara had one son by her second marriage to Peter Imbrie/Imbrie also named Peter.

1606, June 18 - Discharge by Barbara Wedderburn, relict of the late Peter Imbrie, burgess of Dundee, to Mr Alexander Wedderburn, clerk of Dundee, on payment by him to her of 350 merks in full satisfaction of everything due from him to her or Peter Imbrie, her son.
