Barnabas Bangs, Sr.

Barnabas Bangs was born on 11 March 1728 in Harwich (now Brewster, Massachusetts). His parents were Ebenezer Bangs and Anna (Sears) Bangs. He came to Gorham, Maine, around 1750.

Barnabas married Loruhama Elwell, daughter of David & Sarah (Mariner) Elwell, on 14 September 1751 in Falmouth[1]. They had ten children[2], all born in Gorham:

Ebenezer, born 22 Oct 1765; married Polly Cobb 8. Mehitable, born 22 Oct 1768; married Jonathan Parsons 9. Benjamin, born 6 Aug 1771; married Elizabeth Rand 10. Jonathan; married 1st Deborah Andrews, 2nd Rebecca Babb

Upon the Lexington Alarm in April 1775, Barnabas marched to Boston and enlisted as a private in Captain Hart Williams' company[3].

Barnabas became a Shaker at some point in his life, and died with them in Gorham on 29 January 1808[4].

He is buried in Eastern Cemetery in Gorham.
