Obituary
Barry Clifton Blythe, passed away on January 17, 2014. He was born in Suffolk, VA, on August 26, 1956, and lived in various cities throughout the state of Virginia, including Franklin, Suffolk, Richmond, Onancock, Amherst County, Portsmouth, and Chesapeake. He was predeceased by his parents, Clarence Clifton Blythe, Jr., a United Methodist minister, and Edna Earle Rountree Blythe.
Barry was a graduate of Amherst County High School and attended Central Virginia Community College. He was a Civil Service Employee of thirty-three years at NavFac, Norfolk, VA, where he served in the Public Works Department.
He was a member of Deep Creek United Methodist Church, and bowled in the Portsmouth Sunday School Duck-Pin Bowling League for more than thirty years, serving for most of that time as team captain. He was a passionate Washington Redskins fan and assembled an extensive collection of team memorabilia. He also enjoyed college football and basketball. Favorite vacation spots were Myrtle Beach and Disney World.
Survivors include his wife of thirty-two years, Barbara Brown Blythe; two brothers, C. Earl Blythe and wife Louise, and Stephen E. Blythe and wife JoAnne; mother-in-law, Barbara Rice Brown; sister-in-law, Angela Brown Whitfield and husband Gerald; nine nephews and nieces; and nine great nephews and nieces.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Highway Chapel. A chapel service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 23, 2014, at the funeral home. Entombment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
