About Bartholomew Shoemaker

According to Pennsylvania Folklore Society, Vol. Page 108, Jacob Shoemaker, Daniel Shoemaker, Bartholomew Shoemaker and  Anna Barbara Shoemake, left Cleeburg, Alsace, Germany in 1749 to come to America. (Cleeburg is now a part of France). They, with the addition of George Shoemaker, & nbsp; are listed on the entry lists of the Ship Christian, arriving at Philadelphia September 13, 1749. & nbsp; & nbsp; A few year later in 1752 their father Rudolph Shoemaker emigrated to America to join them. & nbsp; </p><p>At first & nbsp; Rudolph & nbsp; Shoemaker & nbsp; lived in Frederick County, Maryland.  The Frederick County judgement dockets (Book H2, pg 564) state that on August 20 1754, the court set Rudolf Shoemaker levy free as " he was upwards of 60 years of age and so infirm that he was unable to labor for a maintenance. & quot;   By the year 1760 & nbsp; he moved to Loudon County,& nbsp; Virginia where he was also exempt from all taxation.</p><p>These families were all substantial farming families. They were all probably educated. The earliest church records of these families are found in the Reformed Church volume for Frederick County, Maryland. These families may have originally settled in Frederick County, Maryland, but by 1760 were living in Loudoun County, Virginia, near Lovettsville, and apparently close to the Potomac River, as they contracted to deliver tobacco and other produce annually to landings on that river. .......'
