Beatriz Maloney

Beatriz Sherwell Maloney was the fourth child of Luis Napoleon Sherwell and Guadalupe Bessey, she was born in Mexico City on May 16, 1916, one month before the family moved to join their father Luis in New York. She grew up in New York and Brooklyn and attended St. Jerome's elementary school. She moved to Parsonsburg, Maryland, with the family when she was fifteen. She attended Wicomico High School and Maryland State Teacher's College.

Shortly after her father, Luis, passed away in 1937, Cecil Patrick Maloney (Pat) asked for her hand in marriage. When she consented, he wrote a letter to her mother, Guadalupe, requesting permission. Guadalupe's response follows:

Parsonsburg, Md.
Dear Pat:

I received your letter and my only answer is that I wish you both all the happyness in this world, and that your love would last till the end of your lives.

The last thing I heard my husband say about you was: "Pat is the finest boy I ever met" and I agreed with him.

I believed Beatrice would be a good wife. She loves you and you love her, both have good caracters, so there is nothing to worry about. Money is not everything. Is a imprtant thing, but when there is not love you can't be happy.

Be always a goood son Pat, and ;you will have all the blessings of Our Lord.

When you come to Maryland we shall talk about the furniture and the apartment. I know Bea wrote to you about it. But I want to hear what you have to say about things.
