About Belén Enrile-Gutiérrez
While a faculty member of the University of the Philippines' (UP) Department of Economics and Business Administration, in 1925 she was selected as a government pensionado. She was sent to the University of Michigan in October of 1925 to specialize in accounting, and then to Columbia University (in 1927) to specialize in financial audit.
She was one of the seven trustees who incorporated the Far Eastern University (FEU) in 1933. She was appointed as the first dean of four FEU institutes - Education; Arts and Sciences, Accounts, Business and Finance; and Law. She served as acting president of FEU from 1947 to 1949 (when incumbent president Clemente Quintos Uson died in 1947), and then from 1982 to 1985 (when incumbent president Nicanor Jr Mendoza Reyes died in December 1982). She served as a member of the Monetary Board of the Central Bank of the Philippines (now known as the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas) in the 1960s.
In March of 2023, the UP named her among the 100 Accountancy “Centenary Awardees of Excellence”.
