Belinda "Barbara" Newsom was an American academic and diplomat.
Her academic work focused on Italian studies, paleontology, and archaeology. She was the director of Georgetown University's Italian Studies program at Villa Le Balze outside of Florence, Italy. She was also a board member for the L.S.B. Leakey Foundation and the Berkeley Geochronology Center.
In 1980, she was appointed by President Jimmy Carter to serve as United States Representative to the United Nations.
