Appears in the 1810 Lee County Virginia Tax List. From the Pennington Family Web Pages at http://users.aol.com/SPRIVETT/prag5-8.htm#gp7 Micajah Pennington appears in the court records of Rowan County. North Carolina, in 1765-1766. In 1772, he was appointed Constable "in the neighborhood--up the Catawba River". He also was a Justice of the Peace in Wilkes County, North Carolina. Many feel that this was the Micajah Pennington who served with Capt. Enoch Osborn's Company from Montgomery County, Virginia in the Revolutionary War. He apparently d. in Ashe County, North Carolina, about 1812. This is according to a power of attorney as given by his son. Benejah. More information on Micajah was found in a Bible record that gave his birth date as 28 April 1743. His wife was Rachel Jones, b. 12 Jun 1741. This couple was m. on 28 Jan 1761, and were the parents of ten children. They left a huge number of descendants in North Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky, and on westward. Dozens of descendants have contributed to Pennington Pedigrees on their lines. Much of the early information was gathered by Bee Holmes. Early information on this line was summarized by Naola Pennington in 1-2, pp. 35-41. Many researchers had long felt that a Benejah Pennington was the father of Micajah because of their close relationship over the years. In an attempt to prove this, Jerry Pennington of Seattle, Washington, hired a professional Genealogist, Mrs. Jo White Linn of Salisbury, North Carolina to search for a possible connection. Mrs. Linn went through all the published and unpublished material at her disposal, but could find no proof that Benejah was the father of Micajah. This search included the loose papers in the Archives at Raleigh, North Carolina. An index to the Micajah material in Pennington Pedigrees was complied by Iris Hurst of Pennsylvania and published in 16-2, pages 14-40.

Pennington Family History, pp. 145-158, privately published. Dossier on Benajah Pennington, son of Micajah, born 1743, J. E. Pennington and Bee Holmes, for Pennington Pedigrees. They use the 1850 Federal Census to compute Benajah's birth. They read it as 63, I read it as 83. If you track Benagah/Benajah through the Federal Census, his age is closer to 83 than 63. The 1830 and 1840 census need to be checked again. They give conflicting ages for Benagah. PP suggest that Benagah/Benajah was in Barren County, KY, briefly before coming to Roane County, Tennessee, where he married Matilda Hembree. He gives Zephaniah Bell Power of Attorney to go to Wilkes County, N.C. to look after his interests in the estate settlement of his father, Micajah Pennington.

Micajah Pennington was appointed Constable Rowan County. He was Justice of the Peace in Wilkes County, North Carolina. From Colonial & State Records of North Carolina, Vol. IX, page 92, Micajah Pennington signed a petition to form a new county. Quote from one of William Perry Johnson's reports: "No date-but during term of Gov. Josiah Martin who was in office 1771-1775. Petition of inhabitants of upper settlements of Catawba River, Yadkin River, and Three Creekds, being 140 miles from Salisbury, regarding having a new county formed, beginning at Beatys Ford where Tyron line crosses Catawba, then up south side of sd river to mouth of Lower Little River, then to Mulberry fields upon Yadkin River, then north to top of Blue Ridge, and thence along top of Mountain to where Tyron line crosses the sd Moountain then down the sd line to beginning, which would contain 100 miles by 60 miles, and have around 2000 taxables. Among the many signers were: Micajah Penington, Benajah Penington, Sr. and Benajah, Jr." Mr Johnson states that this land lies west and northwest of both Rowan and Surry Co, North Carolina - West and Northwest section of North Carolina. Micajah was the ancester of many Penningtons who are now located all over the USA. We will list here the names of his children from his Bible record with information we know about each. There are several children for whom we have not yet located descendents. According to the Bible record, Micage Penington was born April 28, 1743; Rachel Jones was born June 12, 1741, and they were married Jan 28, 1761. Places of birth and marriage not listed. They were the parents of 10 children: He served with Capt. Enoch Osborn's Company from Montogomery County, Virginia in the Revolutionary War. He apparently died in Ashe County, North Carolina about 1812
