I found Benjamin in 1820 and 1830 Lawrence County. The lady in the archives in Moulton, Alabama told me he owned land in Limestone County before he came to Lawrence but I have not checked this out. I found John Amonett in the Revolutionary Soldiers of Alabama, I have his obituary. I wonder if he could be a brother to Benjamin.

I found this page on the Internet. Molton is in Lawrence County and might be the county seat. That's how I went back and forth when I live in Cherokee in the northwest corner of the state. I may ride up there one day and I may also contact this Deborah Williams that posted these names.

I found the will of Benjamin Amonett in Lawrence County Book C Pages 389-390. Benjamin Amonett was married to Nancy Hubbard. He was a farmer and a minister. He had 11 children 1. Sarah (sally) married John Bramley March 19,1812 in Sevierville Tenn. 2. William (see Amonett family in Arkansasin 1900 for further information on William) 3. Nancy married William Devault 4. Martha 5.Charlotte married John W, Wann July 28,1925 in Lawrence County d.1839 6.Matilda Louise married Searborne Martinn Joseph Benson Sept. 28, 1841 d. before 1841. 7.Samuel 8. John 9. Elizabeth 10. Eliza b. Feb 22, 1811 d. Nov.22,1844 Morgan m. James Warren Tapscott Jan,3, 1839 in Morgan County (my ggggrandmother0 11. Francis m. John D. Tanner I would like information on Benjamin,s parents abd siblings I was excited to find the will.

Mrs. Sophenia Cummings maternal grandfather was John Amonette, a Frenchman by (see notes for William Amonette 1899) lineage, was born in Amelia Co. Virginia and assisted the colonists in their struggle against the mother country throughout the revolution. He lived some years in East Tennessee but in 1811 moved to Madison Co. Alabama, being among the first settlers and spent the rest of his life there. His wife, Bathsheba

Rogers came from a prominent Tenn. family. Mrs. Cummings was born in Madison

Co. Ala and moved to Hempstead Ark in 1851.

I need to write or call this man for more info and the sources of data

Laura's ancestor John A. Amonette was born in Decatur, Alabama which is on the border of Madison County and his father William was born in Tennessee. There seems to be a close association of the two families, but I can't establish a direct relationship.

There is a letter linking the two families. Nelle Griffin Bowen writes the

following: Miss Minnie Rodgers of Huntsville, Alabama (whose ancestor was John Amonette of Va., originally) has in her possession an old letter dated 1881 written by her John Amonette's grand-daughter to his great-granddaughter. This letter is from Hempstead Co. Ark., and reveals the following:-"Tell your Ma I have a grand-daughter of old Cousin Billy Amonette staying here all this winter. I did not know there was such a person earth until she came here."

If it was written from a grand-daughter to a great granddaughter who was not

her daughter then when it says tell your Ma it is one granddaughter saying to

another granddaughter that they remember an old Cousin Billy and that his

granddaughter was in Arkansas. If Old Billy was William (1799) then his

granddaughter probably would be Sally or Jennie who were listed in Arkansas in the 1880 census and are the daughters of John and Julia Amonette. This means that if Billy was their first cousin then he would be the grandson of John Amonette. There are many other possibilities, but it seems to be clear that John Amonette and William were closely related. If they were referring to William L (1829) then that would make william John's son. However, people seem to be fairly certain that John had children named Lucy, Martha, Charlotte, Ann, and Elijah. They were born about the same time as William even though John was almost 50 years old at the time. The writer of the letter was most likely Sophenia Donaldson Cummings who was John's (1753) granddaughter through Charlotte. She was born around 1830 and moved to Arkansas in 1851. It makes me wonder if there may have been another marriage before Bathshebaa Rodgers or an illegitimate child. ***get will from PR 6 Madison p 308***
