13. BENJAMIN 2 BARNEY OF SUDBURY, I had presumed was probably the son of Daniel 1 and Anne ( ) Barney, but according to an article in The Boston Transcript of March 16, 1925, he was the son of Thomas 1 and Hannah ( ) Barney. He was born June 24, 1712 at Sudbury, recorded as "the son of Thomas & Hannah Berne;" and was baptised June 14, 1713 in the Sudbury Church, "the son of Thomas Barney." He married, March 15, 1730/1in Sudbury, Abigail Cutting, the daughter of Thomas and Mary (Nobles) Cutting. She was born September 1, 1709 in Watertown.
He apparently is the same Benjamin Barney who was published November 13, 1737 in Weston, to marry Abigail Corey, the daughter of Thomas Corey of Chelmsford. She was baptised, along with other children, December 29, 1723. William H. Manning says the estate of Thomas Corey of Watertown, Weston section (probated in 1739) shows his daughter Abigail the wife of Benjamin Barney. When Benjamin and Abigail were published to be married, they were "both of Weston."
- In 1732, Benjamin Barney and his wife Abigail "who came from Sudbury in May last" were warned by Concord.
- In 1735, Sudbury warned Benjamin, his wife Abigail "and their family who came from Weston in May or June 1734."
- On August 2, 1737, Benjamin Barney witnessed a deed of §5 Daniel 2 Barney of Bedford regarding the sale of lands in Billerica, the deed perhaps being executed in Bedford.
- In 1747, Benjamin Barney of Leicester, Mass. sold land there.
- On October 3, 1752, some Benjamin Barney, with many other settlers, petitioned for the grant of lands west of Sheffield, Mass., which they had improved.
Benjamin 2 Barney is known to have one son, William ("William, the son of Benjamin Barney, baptised March 13, 1733/4 in the Weston Church.") By elimination he seems to be the father of other Barneys early in Western Mass and Connecticut, namely:
- 19. William 3 Barney, bapt. March 13, 1733/4 in Weston.
- 20. Benjamin 3 Barney; md. Amy (Conklin) Grant.
- 21. Thomas 3 Barney, b. 1745; md. Mabel Chittenden.
- 22. Samuel 3 Barney; of Litchfield, Conn, in 1790.
- 23. Martha 3 Barney; md. May 21, 1755 at Leicester, James Harrod.
- 24. Lucy A. 3 Barney; md. Oct. 1, 1783 at Litchfield, William Phelps (b. May 2, 1753 in Windsor, Conn.).
