MACON – Benjamin Bashinski, Jr. M.D. was born on February 2, 1927 to Bernice Rosenberg Bashinski and Benjamin Bashinski, Sr. M.D. He initially attended Joseph Clisby School and Lanier High School in Macon, Georgia. He then graduated high school from Mercersburg Academy in Mercersburg, PA in 1944. Dr. Bashinski served in the Navy as a hospital corpsman during World War II before graduating from Tulane University, where he was a member of Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity. He obtained both his B.S. and M.D. degrees at Tulane University. He then completed his internship and residency in Urology at Charity Hospital in New Orleans after which he entered private practice in Macon, Georgia in 1956.

Dr. Bashinski was a member of the Georgia Medical Association, Bibb County Medical Society, American Medical Association, Southern Medical Association and the Georgia Urological Society. He was a diplomat of the American Board of Urology. Dr. Bashinski was also a member of Idle Hour Golf & Country Club, Temple Beth Israel and charter member of the Macon Civic Club. His hobbies included his Greenhouse and love of horticulture, fishing, music and traveling. He loved animals and always had a loving home for his dogs; he will be missed by Toto.

Dr. Bashinski is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sheila Carmel Bashinski as well as 3 sons; Benjamin Bashinski, III M.D. of Augusta, GA, Randall Carmel Bashinski and Stephen Jay Bashinski of Macon, GA; 4 grandchildren, Alexis Bashinski Shaefer, M.D. of Birmingham, AL, First Lieutenant Benjamin Bashinski, IV of Augusta, GA, Hayden Ford Bashinski and Connor Alexander Bashinski both of Macon, GA; sister, Ann Odom of Nashville, TN. Dr. Bashinski was preceded in death by his son, Allan Pulitzer Bashinski of Macon, Georgia.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday in William Wolff Cemetery (Rose Hill). Rabbi Laurence Schlesinger will officiate.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Georgia Academy for the Blind, 2895 Vineville Avenue, Macon 31204 or the Allan Pulitzer Bashinski Memorial Fund, c/o Temple Beth Israel, 892 Cherry Street, Macon 31201.
