"Benjamin Franklin Mastin, born in 1813, Married Francis Taylor. His cousins Wi lliam and Robert Hill were witnesses for the marriage bond. The Reverend Savage of Washington, Kentucky certified that he had "joined them according to the ru les of the Methodist Episcopal Church in a state of holy matrimony" on March 5, 1835.
In 1854 Benjamin was the highest bidder ($10.63 and acre) when his mother sold fifty-eight acres of the family farm. This he sold to his brother Samuel in 1859. Benjamin and Francis made other purchases. We find them disposin g of property next to Gilgal Church, and on Two Lick Creek and Pummel in 1863 a nd lastly, of six acres on Two Lick Creek in January 1869, apparently not long before leaving Kentucky (Mason County Deed books carry the details of these tra nsactions.)
Fron Kentucky they went to McLean county Illinois, living fir st two or three miles north of Haworth. Soon after, in 1871, the remainder of t heir children and other Mastins, came to Illinois. In 1878 or 1879 some of them moved to Kansas, stopping at the "Old Six Mile Ranch" in Morris county with or near their sister and aunt Dinah, (Mrs. William Galbreath) and friends. In 188 0 the census shows that Benjamin and Francis and their son John still lived in Bellflower Township, McLean County. On the 9th of November Francis died and soo n afterward son John left for Kansas to be with the ones who had gone before. A lone and lonesome, Benjamin Franklin Mastin courted and married a young neighbo r woman, Soprena Copenhaven. Not much more than a year afterward "Grandpa Masti n" (as the news called him) in a lonesome spell, left Soprena and joined his fa mily in Kansas. June 17th 1888 he was found in his buggy on a country road. He had been returning from church and had suffered a stroke. He died a few days la ter and was burried in the Lincoln View Cemetary.
