Mother Leah died during childbirth. According to cousin Tony Berman 'I knew him as Lennie Lipsey for he was adopted by his maternal grandparents and took their [angalised] name. They lived in Glasgow and I remember seeing him only once when I was a child. I was with my father seeing him off at a railway station. I think this must have been after a visit to London to attend Solly’s [his father Solomon Berman, died January 1939] funeral, for Solly died when I was about 13 years old. I met Lennie again at my wedding in Edinburgh [1952] and also when Muriel and I attended Martyn’s Barmitzvah in 1972. By then, Lennie was married to Marian and had 3 sons. On a visit to Edinburgh in 1990 I tried to contact the Lipseys but by then, I discovered, they had emigrated to Canada.'
