About Benjamin Slocum
Benjamin Slocum (Giles* Samuel? Giles,1 Anthony) was born in Newport, Rhode Island, the 3Oth day of Eleventh month, 1714, and was published for marriage with Elizabeth White of Little Compton Township, R. I., 2 April, 1734.
The record of the births of his children by this marriage was copied from the books of Exeter Township, R. I.
He married second Mrs. Mercy (Smith) Scott, widow of Nathaniel Scott, son of Sylvanus. She was born in the year 1714 and died in 1799.
He held office (Justice of the Peace ?) under the Colonial Government; resided in Smithfield Township, R. I., in the year 1774 with a household numbering five heads; see note on page 75.
