Biography

Benjamin Snow Jr. was born on February 1, 1701, in Eastham, Barnstable County (Cape Cod), British province of Massachusetts Bay. He was the eldest son and child of Benjamin Snow Sr. and his wife, Thankful (Bowerman) Snow.

On August 7, 1723, at 22 years old, Benjamin Snow, Jr., married Martha Eldridge in Eastham, Barnstable Co., Massachusetts Bay province, New England. Martha was from nearby Monomoit (Chatham), Massachusetts.[1]

The couple had 4 children:[2]

Ruth Snow, b: 25 May 1724 in Eastham, Massachusetts Keziah Snow, b: May 1724 (or 1725) in Eastham, Massachusetts Martha Snow, b: 19 May 1726 in Eastham, Massachusetts Nathan Snow, b: 22 Oct 1732 in Eastham, Massachusetts Benjamin Snow, Jr., died before his father, Benjamin Snow Sr., wrote his last Will & Testament on February 1, 1748. In that Will, Benjamin Snow, Sr., names his son Benjamin as "deceased" and adds Benjamin Jr.'s four children in his place.[3]

It is not known exactly when or where Benjamin Snow Jr. died but he was not the father of the Nathan Snow (b. October 11, 1743) who colonized Nova Scotia, founding a large Snow family in the Canadian Maritime Provinces. It can be assumed that he died in Eastham, Massachusetts, closer to 1733 than 1748 as all his children were born by 1733 but records remain very incomplete for that place and time so it is unlikely his exact death date will ever be found.

What is known is that Benjamin's daughter: Martha Snow, b. 19 May 1726, married Simeon Higgins of Eastham Mass., on May 3, 1746, and lived her entire life on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. [4]

↑ Her last name at birth was spelled "Eldred". David Kew cites Emma F. The town of Chatham was incorporated in 1712 at which time its name was changed from "Monomoit," after the Native American tribe that originally lived there, to Chatham, as in Kent, England.
