They moved to Manchester Township, Dearborn County, Indiana, with a group of family and friends from Penobscot County, Maine, in 1816 overland by wagon. This was the year of "1800 and Froze to Death", when the weather was so cold in the summer that New Englanders couldn't get in crops, and many moved on West.
They cleared their farm in Manchester, Dearborn County, rafted the lumber to New Orleans to sell, and walked back to Dearborn County. Benjamin later ran a steamboat on the river, and worked as a cooper (barrelmaker).
Benjamin and Hannah had children:
all born in Maine.
