About Benjamin Ward, of Anderson County
Not the same as Benjamin Ward, of Rutherford County
✶ Benjamin Ward moved to Anderson County, Tennessee from Ashe County, North Carolina sometime between the years of 1820 & 1830 given that he is listed in the census record of 1820 in Ashe County, North Carolina, & is listed in the census record of 1830 in Anderson County, Tennessee. He died sometime in or after 1839 since during that time he was listed in the tax record of that year and, presumably before November 6, 1850, the date of the 1850 census in which his wife Catherine is listed living with her & Benjamin's son William Ward. It seems most likely that he died in Anderson County instead of Campbell County because that is where he was residing in the census of 1830, as well as the tax records from 1837, 1838, & 1839. Also, his wife Catherine, who appears in the census record of 1850 living with her son William Ward in Subdivision 16, Anderson County, Tennessee. His burial location is reported to be at Beech Fork Cemetery in Campbell County, Tennessee. That information is reported by a descendant. His birth year is estimated to be 1775 due to the fact that in the census record of 1830 he is assumed to be the gentleman listed in the household aged of 50 & under 60 years old.
Note: In the census of 1820 in Ashe County, North Carolina he is listed beside his brother Duke, and mother Selah—her husband assuming to be decease at this time which also supports the fact that Benjamin's father's Will was probated in August of that year. His other brother James is listed beside Duke.
Benjamin Ward is listed in the will of his father Benjamin Ward, Sr. appointing him an executor thereof.
This Benjamin Ward has been confused with Benjamin Ward, of Rutherford County but they are not the same, and there is no evidence to conclude that they are. I believe this assumption was made due to the fact that Dr. William Ward, this Benjamin Ward's uncle resided in & died in Rutherford County, Tennessee.
