Benjamin Isaiah Weizmann

Chaim Weizmann was married to Dr. Vera Khatzmann.

The couple had two sons. The younger one, Flight Lieutenant Michael Oser Weizmann (1916-1942), fought in the Royal Air Force during World War II. While serving as a pilot in No. 502 Squadron RAF, he was killed when his plane was shot down over the Bay of Biscay in February 1942. His body was never found and he was listed as "missing". His father never fully accepted his death and made a provision in his will, in case he returned. He is one of the British Empire's air force casualties without a known grave commemorated at the Air Forces Memorial at Runnymede in Surrey, England.

A second son, Benjie Weizmann, settled in Ireland and became a dairy farmer.

Benjamin Weizmann

Mr Benjamin Weizmann, the elder and only surviving son of Dr Chaim Weizmann, Israel's first President, died in Jersey, Channel Islands, on Sunday. He was 73.

Mr Weizmann, who was born in Mancheste r and educated at Cambridge and the Sorbonne Paris was of a retiring disposition and took no part in public affairs, Jewish or general.

During the war — in which his younger brother, Michael, a pilot serving in the Royal Air Force was killed in action, he served with the Royal Artillery.

He was twice married. His only son, Mr David Weizmann, works for the BBC.
