Thacker.
Clarence Coley wrote Debi Anderson that Benjamin Thacker of Hanover Co., VA bought 200 acres in Goochland Co., VA in 1753 (Deed Book 6 page 310). In 1759, Benjamin Thaker (sic) and wife Ruth sold that land. Debra Anderson has that the land of Benjamin Thacker in St. Ann's Parish along Ballenger Creek, in Albemarle Co., VA, is mentioned in a 12 Nov 1766 deed, near that of the land of Thomas Sprouse. Clarence Coley also wrote me that on 17 Nov 1766 he bought 300 acres there, where his land is on both sides of the Bold Branch of Ballenger Creek. On 14 May 1767 he sold 230 acres of that land. The other 70 acres were sold in 1778. He gave Fluvanna Co., VA deeds of gift to sons Nathaniel and William on 6 Mar 1783, the same year he later married Martha Sprouce. Clarence Coley says that Benjamin Sr. sold land to Benjamin Jr. in 1784. In the same year, Benjamin Thacker, Sr. and wife Martha of Fluvanna Co., VA, co-granted a deed with likely son Benjamin Thacker, Jr. and wife "Nicey" in Fluvanna Co.
Coley found Benjamin Sr. and Benjamin Jr. in 1782-1785. Benjamin Thacker of Fluvanna bought land in Albemarle Co. on 14 Dec 1786. On another Albemarle Co. deed on 17 Dec 1786, he is said to be "of the same county." Benjamin Thacker is on the Albermarle Co. personal property tax list in 1787, 1788 (with son Benjamin Jr.) and in 1789, when he is listed as Benjamin Thacker Sr., implying that son Benjamin Jr. was also there, though he was not found. He is again listed on the personal property tax list as Benjamin Thacker in Albemarle Co. from 1790 through 1799. He is also on the land tax list of Fluvanna Co. until 1799, along with Benjamin Jr. (during the same period) who has his own land taxed. Debra Anderson has that the 9 Apr 1798 will (in Albemarle Co., VA) of Benjamin Thacker was proved Jul 1799 (in Albemarle Co. per Clarence Coley) and names his wife Martha, sons Ambrose, William, Benjamin, Nathaniel, Daniel, Jesse, & Ezekiel (no Edward or Pettis), and daughters Ann Harlow & Jerusha, (and step-daughters?) Christiana Sprance (Sprouse), Mary Sprance, & Elenor Thacker Sprance.
