Benton was a farmer, enlisted in the 141 Regiment, Illinois Volunteers 1864. Term of servoce 100 days. He was marriedto Hattie Vance, 23 September 1875 at Freedom, Illinois. They moved to Redding , California in 1855. No date of his death. Hattie Jones died 4 December 1887 at Redding, California. She was brought back to Millington, Illinois, and buried in the family cemetary.
