About Barnet "Bernard" Dalitz
Barney founded the Varsity Laundry in Ann Arbor, which mainly served University of Michigan students. The laundry was later run by himself, his brother Nathan, his nephew Morris, and his nephew-in-law Al Blumenfeld. Barney's son, Moe Dalitz, also worked at the laundry for a while, and was introduced to Jimmy Hoffa while trying to prevent union organizing among laundry employees. But Moe's pursuits went beyond those of the laundry, and he later moved to Las Vegas to run some casinos.
Barney was the first of those operating the laundry to die. When his brother Nathan later died, control of the laundry went to the Cleveland (crime) Sydicate.
The laundy's trucks were used to run alcohol from Canada into the United States during prohibition.
