Bernard M. Welty, 84, of Emmitsburg died Monday, Nov. 26, 2007 at York Hospital. He was born October 15, 1923 in Fairfield, Pa. as the son of the late Tyson J. and M. Dula McNair Welty. He was the husband of Ann T. Hobbs Welty, his wife of 46 years. He graduated from Emmitsburg High School in 1942 and attended Mount Saint Mary's College.
He worked as a dairy farmer on the family farm until 1973. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Emmitsburg and served as a lector for many years. He was a fourth degree Knights of Columbus and served as a previous master of the Emmitsburg Grange. He enjoyed many years raising his vegetable garden and was an avid bird watcher.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his son, David B. Welty and wife, Angela, of Emmitsburg; daughter, Catherine A. Welty Miller and husband, Donald F. Miller Jr., of Thurmont and son, Kevin D. Welty and wife, Lori, of Erie, Colo.; five grandchildren, Tyson Miller, Michael and Patrick Welty, and Ava and Mia Welty; brothers, Joseph N. Welty and James T. Welty; sister, Barbara W. Martin, all of Emmitsburg; also numerous nieces and nephews. He will be remembered by his dear friend, Harry Hahn, of Emmitsburg and card playing friends, Frank and Margie Valentine.

He was predeceased by his sister, Margaret Baker.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 47 DePaul Street, Emmitsburg with Rev. Steven P. Trzecieski C.M. as celebrant. Interment will be in the new St. Joseph's Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 W. Main Street, Emmitsburg. Rosary prayers will be said at 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dr. Bonita D. Portier, Emmitsburg
