About Berta Aichinger, MD
Berta Aichinger was a doctor of Jewish descent in the interwar period in Vienna, who also wrote songs, some of which were published under the pseudonym Dr Bert Inger. She was the mother of twin girls, Ilse and Helga. Ilse Aichinger became a writer, her most important work being The Higher Hope about her experiences during the Nazi era. Her twin sister Helga was able to flee to England and became a fine artist, living in London until her death in September this year.
