Bertha Ander was born on September 25, 1910 to Emil and Minnie (Ernst) Moschkau. Bertha was the oldest daughter of 11 children. Bertha grew up in Turtle Lake, WI where her parents farmed. She was united in marriage to Harry J. Miller on November 28, 1928 and five children were born to this union. Bertha and Harry farmed in various places and ended up in Barron, WI for most of their marriage. In 1983, Harry passed away after 55 years of marriage. In 1987, Bertha married Pastor Gustav Ander. They were married seven years when he passed away at the age of 96. Bertha was a great seamstress, cook and baker. She worked at various jobs during her working years including cooking at Heath Rest Home, waitressing, farming and at Jerome Foods. She was a gracious hostess and her brothers knew she baked bread every Saturday, so were sure to stop if they were in the area. She was also famous for her chocolate cake with 7 minute frosting. If someone drove in the yard, she could almost have that cake in the oven before they came through the door. Bertha was preceded in death by her husbands, Harry Miller and Pastor Gustav Ander; son, Robert Miller; daughter, Donna Chermak; granddaughters, Debbie Miller and Paulette Chermak; grandson, Bob Miller; brothers, David Ernst, John, Carl, Emil, Ed, and Art Moschkau and sisters, Agusta Whitney and Marie Moschkau. She is survived by her daughters, Dorothy (Harry) Scott, Beverly Miller, and Cherie (Jim) Anderson; son-in-law, Mike Chermak; daughter-in-law, Joanne Miller; 14 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, 20 great, great grandchildren; sisters, Emma Groom and Rose (Harold) Strasser; sister-in-law, Esther Moschkau, as well as many loving nieces, nephews and relatives. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 2, 2012 from Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Amery, WI. A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the funeral at church. Interment will be at the Amery Cemetery.
