Bertha Reinders

Mrs. John Reinders, nee Bertha Hofmeyer passed away at the Doornink hospital Sunday, July 4 at 4.15 p. m. following a lingering illness of many years.

She was born at Chicago, Ill. on October 16, 1872 and was at the time of her death 70 years and 9 months old. She came to Sioux county with her parents Mr. and Mrs. G.J. Hofmeyer in 1872. The family settled in Alton.

On Sept. 10, 1891 she married John Reinders at Orange City. The couple began housekeeping on the farm and lived in the Ornage City vicinity for 29 years moving to town 23 years ago.

9 children were born to this union 7 of whom with their father survive. They are Dena, Mrs. Henry Vellinga of Hull,; Joe Reinders of Alton; Hattie, Mrs. Mike J. Foreman of Le Mars; Jennie, Mrs. Andrew Vogel, Gerrit J. Reinders, Gladys, Mrs. John Gerritsen of Orange City and Albert J. Reinders of Bellflower, Calif.

The two children preceding her in death were Gertie, Mrs. Hubert Schuller who died 22 years ago and a son Edward who was 1½ years old at the time of his death.There are 32 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. 1 sister, Mrs. Johanna De Boer of Hull and 3 brothers, Gt. Hogmeyer, Henry Hofmeyer of Orange City and John Hofmeyer of Alton.

Mrs. Reinders has 6 grandsons in service: John Foreman in California; Eibert Aalbers of Colorado; Geo Vogel in California: John Vogel of New York; Edward Reinders of Idaho and Rodney Vellinga of Texas.

John Foreman of California is expected home for the funeral services which will be held today (Thursday) at 1 p.m. at the house and 1:15 p. m. at the First Chr. Ref. church of which she was a member. Rev. Bronkema will officiate. Interment will be made in local cemetery.
