BERTHA JANE RASH was born November 10, 1874, and died Apr. 10, 1950 at Creston, Union County, Ia. She married WILLIAM JOSHUA SWAIM July 27, 1893, son of William Walter Swaim and Mary Ann Davis. He was born Dec. 16, 1867 in Indiana, d. Jan. 21, 1946 in Creston, Union Co., Iowa.
Bertha was twin to Burton Francis Rash. William Swaim was a farmer. His nickname was Will. In 1932 they lived at Murray, Clarke County, Iowa, according to History and Recollections of My Father and Family, by Bertha’s sister Flora Rash Thompson. Bertha & William & sons Ray & Wayne are buried in Graceland Cemetery, Creston, Iowa.

Mrs. Bertha Swaim Dies Early Today
Mrs. Bertha Rash Swaim, 75, died at her home at 403 south Cherry street, in Creston, at 4:15 a.m. today. She had been ill for several years.
Funeral services will be held at McGregor Brothers and Coens’ chapel at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. Rev. Leslie J. Thomas, pastor of the First Baptist church, will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery.
Bertha Rash was born at Union, in Hardin county, Iowa, Nov. 10, 1874. She was the daughter of Lewis and Rachel Hammer Rash. In 1893, she was married at Bangor, Ia., to W.J. Swaim, who preceded her in death on Jan. 21, 1946. Mr. and Mrs. Swaim came to Creston in 1935 after operating a farm southwest ot Thayer.
Surviving are three sons, Ray Swaim of Newton, Wayne Swaim of Creston, and Paul Swaim of Benton City, Mo.; four daughters, Mrs. Inez Smith, Mrs. Edith Bevans and Mrs. Reva Benedict of Creston, and Mrs. Pearl Lamb of Thayer; and two brothers, Henry Rash of Winterset and Benny Rash of Marshalltown.
She was preceded in death by three children, Lillian, Bessie and Dale.

Word was received by relatives here of the death of Mrs. Bertha Swaim of Creston Monday. Funeral services were held in Creston Wednesday at 2:30 p.m., with burial in Graceland cemetery. She was mother of Mrs. Dennis Lamb of this community.
Note (not part of the obit): Dennis Lamb was the husband of Bertha's daughter Pearl Verna Swaim.
