Henry Maxey (1902–1902) 1902-03 • Antlers Oklahoma. Family story says that Bertie was so young and inexperienced that she let her first born baby die of starvation.
Myrtle Mae Maxey (1904–1919) Robert Lee Maxey (1908–1985) Lena Maxey (1909–1993)[1] Mary Etta Maxey (1914–2001) Nettie Maxey (1916–1973) William Maxey (1919–1970) Jack Dempsey Maxey (1921–1984)

She then married M. Ollie White on July 19, 1935, in Antlers, Oklahoma.

"Lucille says Granny was dumb (uneducated). Charles left her wealthy but she let everyone take it away. Ollie White has been a family friend for years- by the time he married her she was broke. ... More of berties life: A lawsuit was brought against Bertie after the death of Charles. Bertie attracted the attention of a suave car salesman in Farris Ok. He convinced her she needed to buy a car - even though she did not know how to drive. Ernest Smithson her son in law tried to talk her out of it. But she was taken with this salesman. Lucille Smithson was about 10 years old at the time and remembers the salesman has curly blonde hair and wore red spectator shoes. The day Bertie bought her car it was raining. The salesman tried to drive it to her house for her but the unpaved muddy roads proved to hard to drive. The salesman said he would keep the car overnight and bring it to her the next day. That night the salesman took the car out and hit and killed a man. Bertie was sued by the man's' family Her family, mostly men, turned against her saying she was stupid. Ernest Smithson took her to town in his Model T to get a lawyer 'cos her family would not help. She lost a lot of money due to this lawsuit. Lucille says that Robert Maxey, Charles' brother, was the executor of the estate and after this took over Berties inheritance. At the time of Charles Maxeys' death he owned 19000 acres in Oklahoma and hundreds of hogs and cattle. He also raised the best mules around. Spending up to $3000 for a stallion. Sadly Bertie was made to take care of her self , ie buy clothes and such by selling vegetables. her husband did not feel it was his job to clothe her." - Ancestry user, ncangi1 originally shared this on 02 Jun 2007

She died on August 11, 1960, in Oklahoma at the age of 74, and was buried in Antlers, Oklahoma. 0
