About Bertoldus Hubere, Baron

This family is probably descended from one Bertoldus Hubere (aka Bar Hubere), born about 1190, a younger son of a minor landed knight of the baron of Switzerland. Bertoldus was a citizen of Bern, and his name appears frequently in official documents of that city. He had at least three sons – Nicolaus (1218) , Burchard Dictus Hubere (1222-1258), and Jacob (1230). All were citizens of the Canton of Bern. Nicolaus was a Consul of the capital city of Bern.. Burchard Hubere acquired land in the present Canton Aargau, Switzerland, largely in the County of Lenzberg, in the vicinity of Oberkulm.

The Aargau is a canton comprising 1405 square kilometers in north-central Switzerland, bordered on the north by Germany (state of Baden-Württemberg), on the west by the cantons of Baselland, Solothurn and Bern, on the south by the canton of Lucerne and on the east by the cantons of Zürich and Zug. Its capital is at Aarau.
