* 6 London Road, Maldon was the home/smithy of the Gill family. The house would have been plasted over in Victorian times as it was built sometime in the 16th century. No 4, Maldon Road, was built a 100 years earlier, according to the owner of No 4. The house was sold out of the family at James's death, no one wanted the eldest son to take it on. It will be worth a lot of money today as it was very well refurbished inside and has a large rear garden. At one time I understand up to twelve blacksmiths were employed, so there were lots of forges/horses etc to accommodate.
