Bessie Cooper Harkness

Bessie Hart was the eighth child of James Madison Hart and Martha Vella Wright Hart. She was born in Paulding County, Georgia on Dec 7, 1890. She received her formal education in the county schools. On Dec 30, 1911 in Paulding County, she married Charles Grady Cooper (b. Nov 28, 1886 in Paulding County, GA, son of James B Cooper and LeDora Stockley Cooper). Charles Grady died May 13, 1912 as a result of a hunting accident. He is buried at Bethany Christian Church cemetery in Paulding County, with his parents and brother, James Grover Cooper who died May 14, 1912 injured in the same hunting accident.

Bessie's second marriage was to Worthy Lloyd Harkness (who had been married first to Lizzie Teal, sister to Loon Teal and Sue Teal, the spouses of other siblings). Their only child was born Nov 19, 1921 in Birmingham, AL. Six weeks later, Bessie Hart Harkness died of tuberculosis on Jan 5, 1922. Bessie is buried on the Cooper lot beside her first husband in Bethany Christian Church Cemetery, Paulding County. GA.
