Andrew Kreinik: "Sam was deaf (through sickness not at birth). In order to communicate with him Sarah became fluent in sign language (which she taught my father). She also became an expert lip reader. Sam married Bess who was also deaf. She became deaf as a little child and knew how to speak a bit. When she became a mother, her neighbors drilled a hole in the wall between the apartments and she tied a string to her big toe and passed it through the wall. When her babies would cry at night, the neighbors would pull on the string so that she would know to get up and take care of them."

1920 Census lists Samuel as Head of R with Mathilde as wife.

Indeed there are two Bessie Kreiniks: KREINIK, BESSIE was born 31 October 1891, received Social Security number 120-52-8409 (indicating New York) and, Death Master File says, died July 1975 4558606
