He was shown as Nimrod Purkins a head of household. There was 1 free white female, age 16-26, and 2 Free Negroes, so he must have been one of the Free Negroes. There is no evidence, however, that Nimrod married or had children.
There are countless trees that claim Nimrod Perkins’ wife was Betsy Laughing Water. However, I have never found a single actual record that gives the name of Nimrod Perkins wife. There is no marriage record, she isn’t mentioned in his Revolutionary War pension application, and Nimrod Perkins died before the names of wives and children were listed in census records. There are no records anywhere for anyone named Betsy Laughing Water. At least two people claim this was a joke name someone made up for Nimrod's wife.
Bottom line: There is no evidence that a person named Betsy Laughing Water ever existed, much less that she was Nimrod's wife. She appears to be plum made up.
Likewise, Sarah Perkins who is listed as Nimrod's daughter, also does not seem to exist.
