Betty Hay, here treated, is the daughter of Harry Hay in Cairston and his wife Betty Anderson She was born before 26 October 1780, the date upon which her baptism was registered at Orphir in Orkney, Scotland. Her baptismal record reads as follows: "[1780[ Ocr 26th. Hary Hay in Clairston had by his spouse Betty Anderson a child baptized named Betty Witnesses: George Sinclair and Peter Louttit."
