About Betty H Sherda

Betty was Harry's dance instructor. That is how they met.

From Betty's three daughters here is some family background:

My Grandmother & Grandfather were born in Spain as were all their relatives. After they were married they took a ship to South America to begin businesses. They opened up shoe factories & were very successful. My grandmother also invented the zipper that has a connector to bring the sides of the zipper together (like sweat shirt jackets have). Caleb found the patent which was done in NY in the 1920's.

My grandfather became very ill after Nelly was born. When he continued to get worse my grandmother found a hospital in Panama where lots of our relatives from Spain had gone to open flooring (granite, marble) factories that are still successful businesses. My grandfather declined steadily diagnosed with syphillis. It's a miracle that neither my grandma or mom & sisters were not infected.

My grand mother put my mom (at 16 yrs) & her sisters on a ship to CA. She had enrolled them in a private school in Pasadena (Brown's school for girls). My grandma sold the business in Columbia, bought an apt complex in Panama & my uncle managed it. Then she moved to LA & bought an apt complex there. She was quite a business woman for those times. She died in 1964. Dora died March 17, 1988 & Nelly, 2008.
