Note: A. In 1739, Enfield was part of Massachusetts. It wasn't until 1749 that a lawsuit was settled in which it was determined that a surveyor's error placed a section of present day Hartford County (including Enfield) within the boundaries of Massachusetts, the town seceded and became a part of Connecticut in 1749.
