About Bilichilde
She was purchased from merchants by Brunehaut, and married to Brunehaut's grandson Theudebert. The chronicler says that she was highly esteemed by the Austrasians and bore her husband's simpleness with dignity. Nevertheless, she regarded herself as Brunehaut's equal, while Brunehaut made much of the fact that Bilichilde was a former slave. Theudebert eventually expelled his grandmother, who then took refuge with his brother Theuderic. A meeting was arranged between Brunehaut and Bilichilde to make peace between the brothers, but on the advice of the Austrasian nobles, Bilichilde refused to attend. She was later killed by her husband.
