Millard "Bill" Christianson, 88, of Froelich, died February 28, 2013, at the Great River Care Center in McGregor. Funeral services were held on March 5, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona. Burial with military graveside honors followed in the church cemetery.

Millard "Bill" Christianson, Froelich, Iowa, February 28, 2013 Millard “Bill” Christianson, 88, Froelich, Iowa, died Thursday, February 28, 2013, at the Great River Care Center, McGregor, Iowa. He was born on April 26, 1924 to Henry and Mathilda (Halverson) Christianson Sr. in rural Elgin, Iowa.
Millard enlisted in the U.S. Army on October 12, 1945 as a Medic and Surgical Technician. He had training at the Medical Department Enlisted Technicians School at Fitzsimons General Hospital in Denver, Colorado. After training, he served as Corporal with the 9206th Beach Detachment on board ship with a tour of duty in Japan, Korea and China. He received the victory medal for World War II and was honorably discharged on June 26, 1947.
After being discharged from the Army, Bill worked for Joe Clark with farming. He was united in marriage to Mildred Larson on January 29, 1948.They moved to Littleport to start a family and to farm, they lived there for eleven years. In 1961, they moved to Froelich, Bill worked for the Farm Service Company for thirty years and then worked at the Monona Coop for twelve years until he retired. He enjoyed playing cards, visiting with friends and family and playing with his grandchildren. Bill was a member of the American Legion and St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Mildred of sixty-five years; his four children, Karen (Martin) Nissen of Cedar Rapids, Joan (Robert) Bolinger of Edgewood, Bradley (Linda) Christianson of St. Olaf and Kenny Christianson of Monona; five grandchildren, Angela (Gabe) Casanave, Billy Clark, Michael Bolinger, Darcy Bolinger-Valverde and Kenny Christianson Jr.; four great-grandchildren, Brooke Bolinger-Valverde, Chloe Christianson and Jordan and Chloe Clark; his siblings, Delores (Fred) Waalk of West Union, Betty (Bob) Kurdelmeyer of Monona, Velma Larson of Clinton, Charles Christianson of Gowrie; brothers-in-law, Merle Gregerson of Onalaska, Wisconsin, Mervin Larson of Postville, Donnie (Rita) Larson of Elkader, Carroll Larson of Culver City, California and two sisters-in-law, Ruby Rivers of Oelwein and Velma Berns of Elkader. As well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and good friends.
Millard was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Wanda Lou Christianson; a grandson, Christopher Clark; three brothers, Elmer, Clifford and Henry Jr. Christianson; four sisters, Hazel Kjosa, Geneva Lantz, Marjorie Martie and Agnes Gregerson.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at 11:00 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona, Iowa.
Visitation will be held two hours before services at the church on Tuesday.
Burial will follow in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Monona, Iowa, with military honors.
