Services for Marjorie Martie, 87, were Thursday, March 27 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia with Rev. Dave L. Lenth officiating. Interment was in the Pleasant View Cemetery at Castalia. She died Sunday, March 23 at Winneshiek Medical Center at Decorah. Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements.
Marjorie Thelma (Christianson) Martie was born Oct. 16, 1920, in Marion Township, near Elgin to Henry and Mathilda (Halverson) Christianson. She was baptized in the Marion Lutheran Church at Gunder Feb. 25, 1921, and confirmed at Highland Lutheran Church Dec. 16, 1934. She attended the country school near her home.
Oct. 17, 1938 Marjorie married Merlin Melvin Martie in Elkader. They had four children: Mervin, Dorothy, Marlene and Linda.
Marjorie helped with the farm work and worked in several other jobs including the Marquette Hotel. She was a nurse's aide at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville for 18 years. Marjorie enjoyed her family and loved to cook. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards and bingo.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Merlin; one great granddaughter, Marie Davis; a son-in-law, Alfred Reed; two sisters, Geneva Lantz and Hazel Kjosa; and two brothers, Elmer Christianson and Clifford Christianson.
Surviving are four children; Mervin (Fritzie) Martie, Mineral Point, Wis., Dorothy Reed, Prairie du Chien, Wis., Marlene (Alan) Mengelsen, Ruthven and Linda (Craig) Mundt, Ossian; 11 grandchildren, Heidi (Jeff) Fuchs, Scott (Renee) Martie, Donnie Reed, Donna Reed, Deborah Reed, Melonee (David) Lamb, Brenda (Rod) Seitz, Brian Monroe, Tony (Emy) Monroe, Jeromy (Kellie) Mundt, and Erica (Paul) Davis; 12 great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are seven brothers and sisters; Agnes (Merle) Gregerson, Onalaska, Wis., Delores (Fred) Waalk, Elgin, Betty (Bob) Kurdelmeyer, Monona, Velma (Burnell) Larson, Clinton, Millard (Mildred) Christianson, Froelich, Henry Jr. (LaVonne) Christianson, Elgin, and Charles (Irene) Christianson, Gowrie.

POSTVILLE, Iowa -- Marjorie Martie, 87 of Castalia, formerly of Postville, died Sunday, March 23, 2008, at Winneshiek Medical Center, Decorah, after a brief illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 27, at Zion Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Castalia.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, at Schutte Funeral Home, Postville, and after 10 a.m. Thursday, March 27, at the church.
