About Birdsey Peck
Birdsey Peck was born in Stratford, Fairfield Co., Connecticut on Jan. 23, 1784. He married with FRANCES ANN GILBERT, dau. of Amos Gilbert and Elizabeth Ann Alling.
Child: Nathan Birdsey Peck (1807-1888).
Family legend says that Birdsey died in the West Indies. Find a grave contributor (relative Nareen) says that her father said he fought in the War of 1812 and was hanged as a pirate, but her gradmother saud he died of the fever. None of this has ever been substantiated. His brother, Josiah Peck, whose interment can be seen in the Old Burying Ground in Stratford, Conn. did die at St. Christopher's, West Indies. Birdsey and Josiah's older brother, Thaddeus Peck, was a cloth merchant and records show that he received supplies from the West Indies, so it is possible that Birdsey and Josiah were on business in the West Indies when they died.
This small amount of information that we have about Birdsey is from the Peck Book in which Birdsey and Frances Ann's only child and my ancestor, Nathan Birdsey Peck, wrote that Birdsey's death was in 1812/1813. He would have been around 29 years of age.
What happened to Birdsey and his wife, Frances Ann, remains a mystery. No tombstone has ever been found for him or her.
