Born on Hovda farm in Opdal (now Uvdal) .Emigrated to US at age 20 on the frigate "Laurdal" leaving Porsgrunn, Norway on Apr 12, 1869 and arriving Quebec on May 18., then settling in Clayton Co. Iowa where she met husband Oluf Olson. Never learned to speak English.
