Hartwig II of Spanheim († August 22, 1164 ), often referred to in older literature as Hartwig II of Ortenburg , was the 22nd bishop of Regensburg and prince bishop in the Regensburg monastery from 1155 to 1164.

Hartwig II of Spanheim came from the Spanheimer family and was the nephew of the 19th bishop Hartwig I of Spanheim [1] and the grandnephew of the ninth archbishop of Magdeburg Hartwig von Spanheim . His father was the Duke of Carinthia Engelbert II , his mother Uta, daughter of Ulrichs von Passau .

In 1147 he appeared as a canon at Passau with the degree of consecration of a deacon . On March 18, 1150 or 1151, Hartwig gave as canon to Salzburg, together with his brothers Engelbert III. and Rapoto I. , two homesteads as a soul device for his late parents at the Salzburg cathedral chapter . In the summer of 1155, Hartwig became bishop of Regensburg.

He accompanied Emperor Friedrich I to Italy in 1158 . In 1161 he had a feud with Henry the Lion over Donaustauf Castle .

In the cathedral cloister at Regensburg, Hartwig had the All Saints' Chapel built, which he chose as his burial site.

Otto von Freising rates him as Hartwicus Ratisponensis episcopus inutilis e.g (. "a useless slacker" )
